Startup Festival presents a hackathon hosted by Context.IO and CakeMail.

With all the time we spend on email and the immense amount of rich data it holds, why not take a day to hack something interesting with it? The best APIs to do exactly that will be available to you in Montreal on Wednesday, July 13th for the "Hack your Email" event being held in conjunction with Startup Festival.

Context.IO will be presenting their API that allows developers to turn email into a data source: http://context.io/docs/1.1

CakeMail will be presenting the API for their web-based email marketing platform for marketing agencies: http://dev.cakemail.com

Xobni, will be presenting Xobni gadgets on the OpenSocial Platform: http://www.xobni.com/developer

The awesome Litmus email marketing testing platform will also be generously providing us some API keys to hack with: http://litmus.com/api

This event is open to all web application developers and designers looking to create something fresh and new that leverages email, the killer web app. Feel free to create teams and brainstorming in advance, but please ensure that everyone registers individually. Once teams are created, email sarah-jane @ context.io with a list of your teammates (a wacky team name wouldn't hurt either). All participants are still required to register individually. We've created a wiki to help you start connecting with teammates and to post any questions related to the hackathon: http://hackyouremail.wikidot.com/

We will also be happy to create teams on the day of the event. Just be sure to arrive early so we can connect you with fellow hackers! 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We need people to help us set up, feed hackers, cover the event with pics and tweets, tell some jokes, do a motivational jig or two and just generally be awesome. In exchange for your awesomeness you will be showered in coffee, baked goods, Red Bull, pizza, swag and heaps of warm and fuzzies. What more could you ask for?

2nd place: Custom service package from CakeMail, Context.IO and Litmus (eg: free year of API calls, discounted access for a year, ... - the details will be determined with the winners to meet your dev needs), t-shirts and a mountain of swag

SCHEDULE (subject to change):

9:00 AM - 10:00 AM: Arrival, breakfast (hacker fuel: coffee and pastries) and creation of teams (for those who don't already have one).

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: API Presentations

- Opening remarks and presentation of Context.IO from Bruno Morency, Founder of Context.IO

- CakeMail will present their email marketing API

- Presentations of Litmus and Xobni Gadgets for the Open Social Platform

11:00 AM - 4:30 PM: CODE! CODE! CODE! (pizza, snacks and Red Bull will be provided) 

4:30 PM - 6:00 PM:  PRESENTATIONS AND JUDGING (AND MAD REFRESHMENTS)

- Judges will include Jeremy Edberg from Reddit, Bruno Morency of Context.IO and Vincent Lamanna of Cakemail

6:00 PM - ?: STARTUP FEST LAUNCH PARTY - WINNERS ANNOUNCED (Startup Fest pass required for entry - see http://www.startupfestival.com/en/speakers for more details)
